Every year, on a very modest budget, another condo resident and I decorate the common area of our building. Starting early fall, we plan for the Christmas season by busily crafting our decorations. This year, though we can’t have our traditional condo Christmas potluck or New Year’s brunch, we decided to keep the holiday spirit alive by decorating as planned.

We managed to make over 100 one of a kind tags, then decorated the stair railings with them, as well as with silver and red beads.

Over 200 feet of railings are now ready for the holidays!
A sampling of the tags we made.
Good for you! I refuse to NOT celebrate. We just have to be creative.

Thanks. At least it looks like Christmas, even if it doesn’t feel like it!

It is very satisfying work, is it not?

It is, especially when someone says it cheered them up a little.

That sounds like a fun tradition! It’s wonderful when we can maintain some vestiges of normal holiday cheer despite the pandemic. I think decorations make an even greater difference in these days. When my family lived overseas in a country that didn’t celebrate Christmas much, my sisters and I cut a LOT of paper snowflakes and my mom knit ornament trees. They were good budget decorations.

That sounds great! Our budget is always below 50 dollars. Thankfully, the pine garlands and lights can be used year after year.
